FAQ

If I want to sing, how do I sign up?

We LOVE with you want to sing! Just come right up and ask the Karaoke DJ. You should be ready to tell us the name of the song and by who, along with your name. We get you set up right away. If you need song ideas, we use Karafun karaoke software. Follow the link to their online list of songs. We can’t use YouTube tracks or songs you provide.

How do I find the perfect song for my vocal range?

Worry not, dear Epic Singer, We can change the key of any song. Just let us know when you make your song request to adjust the key up or down, and in how many half-steps, e.g. “I’d like to sing American Pie, down 2” and we adjust the song down two half-steps. This is a great way to bring a song into your range.

What if I forget the lyrics midway through my performance?

Ah, the age-old karaoke conundrum! Fear not, Epic Singer, we’ve got you covered. Our state-of-the-art lyric displays will keep you on track, so you can focus on nailing those high notes and winning over the crowd. Just keep your eyes peeled and your vocal cords warmed up – Epic Karaoke’s got your back!

Can I change my song?

Of course… up until you’ve been called up and your song is already showing on the screen. Just let your DJ know and we’ll get it changed for you. BUT.. if the song you want to sing is already on the list with a different singer, then we ask you to select a song that is not already on the list. You don’t want to compete with your fellow singers over a song.

Someone else sang my song. Can I still sing it?

Nope. We won’t play the same song twice in the same night. We don’t want this to be a competition. We want it to be casual fun.

I can’t hear myself sing. Help?

Unlike some venues, we adjust the sound levels with each singer. Volume varies between singers, karaoke tracks and mic techniques. 90% of sound issues are related to the way the singer is holding the mic.

This singer is TERRIBLE!?

So what! Imagine the courage it takes to get up there and sing, when you’re not a great singer. We love bold people! This is about entertainment, not being the next Beyonce.  Support ALL your fellow singers with a good round of applause when they are done. Watch them glow when they get such recognition. Love it!

Can I get some recognition for my friend’s birthday or some other event?

Yes! Just let the DJ know and we’ll plug in the appropriate recognition. Whether it’s a birthday, anniversary, or special event.

I want to sing more songs. How can I do that?
  • Here are some simple ideas:
    • Arrive early when there are less people.
    • Put your song in immediately upon arrival. We will let you give us up to 3 songs at once, but we reserve the right to mix your songs into the que so that we are creating opportunity for all to sing.
    • Tip your DJ. Yes, we do allow tipping of the DJ to improve your position on the list. We will never ask you for a tip, nor give you a specific amount to tip. That’s all you, baby. Just don’t get demanding. You have no idea what other singers have also tipped for improved list position. The level of the tip does influence how far up you will be moved. Sorry, but our DJ’s make their living on tips. There are some venues/events that would prefer that we not accept tips, in which case the venue is paying a higher base to us, allowing us to pay our DJ’s more. When we are in such a venue we will let you know when you ask.
How does your singer rotation work?
  • We start with the basic premise of first-come, first served. The list is created as singers come up to request a song. However, we will do some automatic bumps up the list as follows:
    • New Singer Bump. If you’re a new singer that night, your first song gets bumped up to two spots. Not available in the last hour of the night.
    • Epic Karaoke Follower. If you are a follower of Epic Karaoke on FaceBook, then your first song gets bumped up three spots. A little reward for our followers.
    • Tips to the DJ. Yes, you can influence your placement on the list with a tip for the DJ. We will never ask you for a tip, nor give you a specific amount to tip. That’s all you, baby. Just don’t get demanding.
What the Heck! I didn’t get to sing?!

We’re sorry. We hate that! Sometimes we simply run out of time. As we approach the last hour or so of the evening, the DJ will tell you the likelihood of you getting your song in before closing. Regardless, we encourage you to still put your song in, because it’s very common for singers already on the list to go home, and suddenly your song has moved up. Just be aware that you may not sing.

I’m leaving. Should I let the DJ know, if I have a song on the list?

It would be polite to do so. Especially if it’s toward the end of the evening and other singers are hoping to still get a song in.

Can I sing explicit songs?

This is a decision by the venue. We prefer to not allow explicit songs, but the venue can decide otherwise. Songs that are explicit are marked with an “E” in the Karafun song list. We know that some songs that are marked explicit really aren’t. We encourage you to find a different song, if a song is not allowed. If you aren’t sure, ask the DJ.
